Patna – The Monsoon Session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly began today, but the first day saw a major uproar from the opposition, forcing the House to adjourn till Tuesday. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reached the Assembly along with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary and other senior leaders. The session, which will run until July 25, is expected to be important as the government plans to introduce 12 bills, including 4 new ones and 8 amendments. The most awaited bill is the Jannayak Karpoori Thakur Kaushal University Bill 2025. If passed, Bihar will get its first skill university. The move is part of the government’s aim to create jobs for 1 crore youth in the state. The government also plans to bring special laws for gig workers (like Swiggy and Zomato delivery staff) and small shop employees, to improve their working conditions.

Focus on Land Disputes and Municipal Rights

Three amendments related to land reforms will be presented. These include:

• Creating an Appellate Authority at the division level

• Urban land surveys

• New rules for non-agricultural use of farmlands

Strong Protest by Opposition

The session began with loud protests from opposition MLAs, especially from the RJD. They wore black bands and shouted slogans, objecting to the government’s revision of the voter list. Despite repeated appeals from Speaker Nandkishore Yadav to maintain order, the protests continued. After paying tribute as part of the condolence motion, the Speaker adjourned the House till Tuesday.
