Today, on the 10th International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted global participants from the beautiful Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar. The celebrations began at 6:40 am amid the serene backdrop of the Dal Lake.
However, the scheduled mass yoga session that was to begin after the Prime Minister’s address at 7 am was unexpectedly disrupted, as rain temporarily disrupted the proceedings.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on the growing global awareness and acceptance of yoga. He highlighted that yoga has caught the attention of world leaders and is now a subject of extensive research. Modi also mentioned the growing trend in yoga tourism, citing the increasing number of international visitors coming to India to explore authentic yoga practices.
“We can see a new trend of yoga tourism taking shape in India,” Prime Minister Modi said during his speech, underlining the country’s emerging role as a centre for traditional yoga education.
Despite the weather disruption, the event continued with full enthusiasm at SKICC, where participants joined millions of people from across the world to mark the transformative power of Yoga on this important global occasion.
