Justice M S Sonak from Bombay High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. The Union Law Ministry issued the official notification on Friday after receiving approval from the President of India. The current Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, Tarlok Singh Chauhan, is set to retire on January 8, 2026. Following his retirement, Justice M S Sonak will take oath and assume charge as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Justice Sonak’s appointment is expected to strengthen judicial functions and ensure faster disposal of cases in the state. His experience and judicial background are seen as valuable for improving the higher judiciary system in Jharkhand.
