The Enforcement Directorate has taken a significant legal step by filing a plea in the Delhi High Court against the trial court’s decision to grant bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case. The ED has sought an urgent hearing on the matter, claiming that their side was not adequately heard during the bail proceedings in the lower court.
In response to the ED’s plea, the Delhi High Court has agreed to hear the matter. The Court has also issued an interim order stating that the trial court’s bail order will not be executed until the ED’s challenge is fully examined.
The ED’s argument centres on the fact that they were not given adequate opportunity to present their opposition to Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the trial court. They argue that the lower court’s bail order should be stayed due to this procedural lapse.
The outcome of the High Court hearing will determine whether Arvind Kejriwal will remain in custody or be released today.
