Major train accident: Kanchenjunga Express derails after colliding with freight train

Patna: A major rail accident has occurred on the border of Seemanchal and West Bengal, where the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express collided with a freight train between Rangapani and Nijbari. The accident led to several coaches of the express train derailing, disrupting rail operations in the region.

The 13174 Kanchenjunga Express from NJP to Sealdah met with the accident despite leaving New Jalpaiguri about an hour late. Initial reports suggest that the express train was standing on the track when the freight train hit it from behind. As a result of the collision, three bogies of the Kanchenjunga Express suffered heavy damage.

The railway authorities are yet to officially comment on the incident, but sources said a relief train from New Jalpaiguri has been dispatched to the accident site. Several trains are stranded at various stations due to the collision, affecting rail traffic in the region.
