Chandrababu Naidu is set to begin his fourth term as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. The TDP leader won a landslide victory in the recently held assembly elections, winning 135 of the 175 seats in the state.
It is a momentous occasion, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, symbolising the change of power and a new beginning for Andhra Pradesh.
After Naidu’s election as the legislature party leader on Tuesday, representatives of the TDP and the National Democratic Alliance met Governor S Abdul Nazir in Vijayawada, strengthening their claim to form the government.
The alliance’s victory in the assembly elections underlines the support the TDP received, with allies like Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party making significant contributions. The Janasena secured 21 seats while the BJP emerged victorious in eight constituencies.
The election results are a major blow to Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party, which has been reduced to just 11 seats in the Assembly.
