Bulldozer Demolishes Liquor Dens After Namkum Violence, Protesters Demand Compensation

Ranchi: Tension continued in Namkum, Ranchi, on Sunday following a violent clash between two groups on Saturday, which resulted in the death of a youth named Sonu and left over a dozen people injured. The incident sparked protests and unrest in the area, as locals demanded justice and compensation.

On Sunday afternoon, the family and supporters of the deceased youth blocked the Ranchi-Namkum road with his body. The protesters set fire on the road, halting all vehicle movement. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, the demolition of liquor dens operating illegally in the area, and government jobs for the family members of Sonu, who was killed in the violence.

The protest gained momentum with support from various political leaders, who joined the demonstration in solidarity with the villagers.

In response to the situation, a heavy police force was deployed to maintain law and order. DSP Amar Kumar Pandey and SHOs from several police stations were present on the scene. The DSP held discussions with the protesters, reassuring them that efforts were ongoing to arrest the accused involved in the violent clash. He also informed them that several arrests had already been made.

Further, the DSP mentioned that bulldozers were being used to demolish the liquor dens that had been illegally constructed on government land, a measure intended to address one of the protesters’ key demands.

Local MLA Rajesh Kachhap also engaged with the villagers and assured them that necessary steps would be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again. He confirmed that the government had provided financial assistance to the family of the deceased for the cremation through the BDO (Block Development Officer).

After receiving assurances from the police and the MLA, the villagers finally agreed to end their protest. The road blockage, which lasted for over three hours, was cleared, and normal traffic resumed.
