Ranchi: The Sirmatoli flyover issue became a point of discussion in the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday during the ongoing budget session. BJP MLA CP Singh raised the matter through an attention motion, stating that the people in the area are protesting against the construction of the flyover.
CP Singh highlighted that effigies of himself and other government ministers, including Chief Minister Hemant Soren, were burned by the agitating locals. The flyover project is part of Singh’s Vidhan Sabha constituency. He emphasized that the issue needed urgent attention, especially as the Sarhul festival was approaching, a time when thousands of people gather to celebrate.
In response, Chief Minister Hemant Soren assured the House that there is no need to worry about the situation. He acknowledged that the issue had been brought to his attention through social organizations and confirmed that the matter would be addressed. He further assured that the Sarhul festival, a major celebration in Jharkhand, would take place smoothly and would be celebrated in a good way.
The Sarhul festival, an important cultural event in Jharkhand and surrounding tribal areas, is a celebration of nature, with special worship of the Sal tree (locally known as Sakhua). It marks the beginning of the New Year and the arrival of spring, drawing large numbers of people from different parts of the region.
The Chief Minister’s statement reassured the public and lawmakers that the ongoing construction work would not affect the festival celebrations, which are of great cultural significance.
