To prevent the spread of brown sugar addiction among young students in Gumla, the local police have intensified the crackdown on illegal drug trade. Based on a tip-off, the Gumla Superintendent of Police constituted a team led by SDPO Suresh Prasad Yadav to nab the criminals active in Phulwar Toli.
On Wednesday evening, the police raided the house of Amit Gop in Phulwar Toli, which is the hub of illegal drug trade. During the action, three youths were arrested, who were identified as Amit Kumar Sahu alias Dhakadu, resident of Sarna Toli Shamshan Ghat Road, Rahul Kumar Sahu alias Tau, resident of Lohardaga Road, and Amit Gop, resident of Phulwar Toli.
About 3.80 grams of brown sugar was recovered in the raid, which shows the seriousness of the drug trade in the area. Interrogation revealed that the arrested persons were actively involved in the purchase and sale of brown sugar, and a transaction of Rs 16,800 was made on the day of their arrest.
