Patna witnessed high political drama late on Friday night when the city police reached the residence of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, to arrest him. The police action continued for nearly three hours and created tension in the entire area. Around 12 midnight, a large police team arrived at Pappu Yadav’s house in the Mandiri area of Patna. The team included the City SP, five DSPs, six station house officers, and around 100 police personnel. As soon as the police arrived, the house and nearby areas were sealed, and the locality was turned into a police camp. At the time, Pappu Yadav was present on the top floor of his house. Seeing such a large police force late at night, he was surprised and asked the officers about the reason for their visit. The police informed him that they had come to arrest him on the basis of a court order. Pappu Yadav refused to go with the police at night. He said that he was ready to appear in court in the morning. This led to a heated argument between him and the police officials. Meanwhile, as news of the police action spread, a large number of his supporters gathered outside his house. The presence of supporters further increased tension in the area. The police went on high alert and deployed additional forces to control the situation. After nearly three hours of arguments and commotion, the police finally began taking Pappu Yadav away under arrest. During this time, Pappu Yadav suddenly fainted while being taken out of the house. This angered his supporters, who started pushing and shoving the police. Some supporters even climbed onto the police vehicle. However, the police managed to control the crowd and safely took Pappu Yadav away. Arrest Linked to 31-Year-Old Case The arrest of Pappu Yadav is related to a 31-year-old case dating back to 1995. The case is registered at the Gardanibagh police station in Patna. According to the complaint filed by Vinod Bihari Lal, Pappu Yadav and his associates had allegedly taken his house on rent by fraud. The complainant claimed that he was not informed that the premises would be used as an MP’s office. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 419, 420, 468, 448, 506, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code. Reports say that Pappu Yadav failed to appear in court for a long time, following which the court issued an arrest warrant, leading to the late-night police action. Attack on Government After Arrest After his arrest, Pappu Yadav strongly criticized the government on social media. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Excellent Bihar Police! I fought for justice for the NEET student, and the police got a stomach ache. Send me to jail or hang me, Pappu will not stop.” In recent days, Pappu Yadav had been actively raising his voice over the death of a student in a Patna hostel. He was continuously pressuring the government for action. He had also released a helpline number for girls living in the hostel and made public alleged audio recordings of hospital staff. During the arrest, Pappu Yadav claimed that there was a conspiracy to kill him. He alleged that the police arriving late at night in civilian clothes was suspicious and said he feared being shot. He also claimed that the police did not show him any arrest warrant.
