Kalpana Murmu Soren, wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, took oath as Jharkhand assembly member for the second time. She took oath from Gandey assembly constituency, from where she had won the election recently. The oath was administered by Protem Speaker Stephen Marandi.
Kalpana Soren contested the election as a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate and won a decisive victory by defeating her nearest rival, BJP’s Munia Devi, by a significant margin.
Apart from her electoral success, Kalpana Soren led the campaign for the Mahagathbandhan, which comprises the JMM, Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Left parties, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She had also won the Gandey assembly by-poll earlier this year.
