Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren to face vote of confidence today

Ranchi, July 8, 2024: The political atmosphere in Jharkhand has heated up as Chief Minister Hemant Soren is set to face vote of confidence in the state assembly today. This is Soren’s second term in the current assembly’s term.

With the ruling INDIA Alliance having a solid majority, Chief Minister Hemant Soren is expected to pass the floor test without any hurdles. Currently, the assembly has 77 members, including nominated members, and Soren needs the support of 39 MLAs for a majority. He currently has the support of 47 MLAs.

The vote of confidence comes after the recent resignations of several MLAs who have moved into roles as Members of Parliament, leaving the assembly with 81 elected members. Those who have resigned include prominent leaders like Sita Soren, Joba Manjhi, Nalin Soren, Manish Jaiswal and Dhullu Mahato, who resigned from their MLA posts due to the Lok Sabha elections.
