Giridih Riot Case Raises Concerns in Jharkhand Assembly

Ranchi: The Giridih riot case echoed in the Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday during the ongoing budget session. As the proceedings began at 11:06 am, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi raised the issue, demanding a debate on the incident and the law and order situation in the state.

Marandi criticized the police action, claiming that Hindus had been unfairly made the accused in the case. He explained that during the Holi festival, people from one community were celebrating peacefully, without any weapons. However, he alleged that the other side attacked with bottle bombs, swords, and sticks, injuring many and setting fire to several shops. He called for a debate in the Assembly on the matter, stating that it was crucial to address these concerns.

Marandi also mentioned that 80 people had been accused in the case, with 40 individuals from each community. He added that 22 people had been arrested so far, with 11 from each side.

In response, Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore acknowledged the sensitivity of the issue and assured that it would be discussed when the Home Department’s budget demand is reviewed. He emphasized that it was not appropriate to politicize such incidents.

BJP MLAs also raised a ruckus in the Assembly over the incident, further highlighting the tension surrounding the case.
