US President Donald Trump has issued a major statement regarding Iran. He has announced that, despite the ceasefire, American troops and warships will remain deployed in close proximity to Iran.

Trump explicitly stated that if the negotiations do not yield the desired results, hostilities could resume. This statement has once again heightened apprehensions regarding escalating tensions. In fact, the US has announced a two-week ceasefire to halt the fighting that has been ongoing since February 28. Israel has also expressed its concurrence with this move. During this period, efforts will be made to pave the way for lasting peace through dialogue. However, just one day after the ceasefire went into effect, Donald Trump made it clear that US forces would not be withdrawing for the time being. He emphasized that American ships, aircraft, troops, and weaponry would remain present within and around Iran until a final agreement is fully implemented. Trump also laid down two major conditions for Iran: first, that Iran must never develop nuclear weapons; and second, that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and secure. He warned that if Iran reneges on these conditions, the US military stands fully prepared to take action once again. Although a ceasefire is currently in effect, the situation is still far from being completely calm. The upcoming two weeks are considered crucial, as they will determine whether lasting peace is established in the region or if conflict erupts once more.
