The Bihar government is preparing to present its biggest budget so far for the financial year 2026–27. According to estimates, the budget size may cross ₹3.66 lakh crore. This will be about 11 percent higher than the current financial year 2025–26 budget of ₹3.17 lakh crore. In simple terms, the new budget could be around ₹50,000 crore more than last year’s budget. Earlier as well, the 2025–26 budget was increased by nearly ₹38,000 crore compared to the 2024–25 budget. This clearly shows that the state government is steadily increasing the budget to speed up development work across Bihar.

The Budget Session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly will begin on February 2 and will continue till February 27. On February 3, the Nitish Kumar–led government will present the budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the Assembly. Ahead of the budget, several pre-budget meetings were held under the leadership of Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. During these meetings, suggestions were taken from experts and representatives of different sectors so that the budget reflects public needs and the overall interests of the state. The Finance Department is working to finalize the budget by January 26.

The main focus of this year’s budget will be on job creation. The government is also giving special importance to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ambitious scheme, “Saat Nischay-3.” The state government has set a target of providing employment to one crore people over the next five years. To achieve this goal, new departments such as the Youth Employment and Skills Department, the Higher Education Department, and the Civil Aviation Department have been created. These departments aim to improve skill training, expand employment opportunities, and support the youth in building better careers.

Along with this, the budget will also focus strongly on infrastructure development. Special attention will be given to the development of airports in Bihar. Better air connectivity is expected to improve trade, tourism, and investment in the state, which will further strengthen the economy. Several key activities are scheduled during the Budget Session. On February 2, the Governor will address the Assembly and the Economic Survey Report will be presented. On February 3, the annual budget for 2026–27 will be placed before the House. After this, there will be discussions on the Governor’s address, detailed debates on income and expenditure, discussions on demands for grants, and voting. The session will also include discussions on the supplementary budget, the Appropriation Bill, and other government and non-government business. The Budget Session will conclude on February 27 with private members’ business and resolutions.
