Baramati Plane Crash: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Among Six Killed Near Baramati

A chartered plane crashed near Baramati in Pune district on Wednesday morning, killing six people, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar. The accident happened at around 8:45 AM.

According to reports, Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati. He was going there to take part in campaigning for the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections and was scheduled to address the public. At the time of the accident, the plane was carrying Ajit Pawar, his security guard, his assistant, and two crew members—the pilot and co-pilot. Officials said the accident occurred during landing. While trying to land, the aircraft skidded off the runway, lost balance, and then caught fire. Local people near the site quickly informed the police and emergency services. Fire brigade and ambulance teams reached the spot, but all the people on board had died. Several videos of the accident have surfaced on social media, showing the plane engulfed in flames. The DGCA confirmed the deaths and said that an investigation has been started. Initial information suggests the crash may have been caused by a technical problem or a runway-related issue during landing. Ajit Pawar’s death is being seen as a major blow to Maharashtra politics. He is survived by his wife and two sons. After the news broke, a wave of grief spread across Maharashtra and many parts of the country.
