Patna: Bihar is currently experiencing severe heat, due to which 13 people died in five districts in the last 24 hours. Most of the deaths occurred in Aurangabad, where five people died due to severe heat. Apart from this, three deaths were recorded in Saran and Gaya, while one person each died in Rohtas and Bhojpur districts.
According to the families of the victims, the deceased showed symptoms of heat stroke, which included severe vomiting and high fever. Despite being taken to nearby hospitals, medical efforts were unable to save their lives.
The district with the highest temperature was Buxar, where the mercury reached 46 degrees Celsius.
In view of the increasing heat, the Meteorological Department on Sunday issued a heat wave alert for many districts including Patna, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Gaya, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Saran and Siwan. The department has predicted rain and wind speed of 30 to 40 kmph in some parts of Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj and Katihar districts. Apart from this, an orange alert has been issued regarding the possibility of severe heat conditions persisting in the south-western part of the state.
