12810 Mumbai Mail derails, dozens injured

Jharkhand, July 30, 2024 — The 12810 Mumbai Mail from Howrah to Mumbai met with a serious accident between Rajkharsawan and Barabambu stations in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur division. The incident took place around 04:00 am on Monday when the train collided with a freight train coming from the down line, causing 18 coaches to derail.

Initial reports suggest that the Mumbai Mail, which left for Chakradharpur after a brief halt. However, the train met with an accident shortly before reaching its next station.

The collision caused heavy damage, with several coaches of the Mail badly twisted and damaged. The number of injured passengers is yet to be fully confirmed, but initial estimates suggest that dozens may be injured.

Emergency response teams, including a relief train and ambulances, have been dispatched to the scene. The senior divisional commercial manager has confirmed the accident and is overseeing rescue and relief operations.

The Howrah-Mumbai rail route is currently paralysed due to the accident. The derailed trains have affected not only the tracks but also overhead lines and poles. The full extent of the damage and the cause of the accident are still being investigated.
